Westside cleanup to hit the roads

The 2010 Westside cleanup will be held April 10, 2010 will be held Saturday, April 10 from 8 am to 4 pm., dumpsters will be available in Gravois Mills; Hwy 135-3 at the Hop and Go; the lower level parking lot of Bank of Versailles in Laurie and in Sunrise Beach at First National Bank. It takes everyone’s help to ensure that the goal to provide a cleaner safer environment can be accomplished. Appliances and tires picked up on the roadside will be taken at the Laurie site only, donations accepted. Sorry, we cannot accept foam! Trash bags are available at the Chamber office in Sunrise Beach and Laurie City Hall. A special thank you to all of the volunteers and sponsors of this event because without you, this annual cleanup would not be possible. 13th Annual Spring Harbor Hop May 1. It's seven-card stud done lake style to kick off the season right. Participants will draw a card and start their run at any of the sponsors’ checkpoints--lakeside restaurants, bars and marinas along the Lake’s Main Channel, Big Niangua and Gravois arms. Six additional cards will be drawn as boaters “hop” to six more checkpoints, for a total of seven cards. Players will turn in their hand(s) where they draw the seventh and final card. Register now for Lake Regional Health System’s 3rd Annual Fun Run/Walk scheduled Saturday, May 1, at Sycamore Creek Golf Course in Osage Beach, Mo. The 5K run will begin in Lake Regional Hospital’s north lot at 7:30 a.m. and continue through Sycamore Creek Golf Course. The Fun Walk will begin at 7:45 a.m. and will be held at the same location. Check-in for all participants will start at 7 a.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Lake Regional’s Cardiopulmonary Rehab Department. Early bird registration for runners is $15 through Friday, April 23. After that date, the registration fee will be $25. 18th Annual Hillbilly BBQ Cook-off Aug. 6-7. The competition will be udder-ly intense as the 17th annual Laurie Hillbilly Bar-B-Que Cook-Off heats up at the Laurie Fairgrounds off Highway 5. Bar-B-Que Cook-off participants will compete in chicken, pork ribs, beef brisket, pork shoulder or Boston Butt categories. Prizes also will be awarded to the top scoring local team (within a 50-mile radius) and the Showmanship Award will honor the booth that best illustrates the theme of the year. The 13th annual Kids Q will give future master grillers, age 5-15, a chance to win prizes of their own. Kids Q contestants will grill hamburgers, sausage or hot dogs. Lake of the Ozarks Shootout

Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Aug. 28-29. The Top Gun of timed racing will rise to the surface in the largest unsanctioned boat race in the nation. The race will run from the 32.5 to the 34.5 mile marker, just below the Hurricane Deck Bridge. Hosted by Captain Ron’s Bar & Grill on Lake Road 5-50 in Sunrise Beach (mile marker 34.5). Boats measuring at least 22 feet in length will be eligible to participate in the Shootout. Competitions will be held in more than 50 boat classes based on length, hull design, and size and number of motors. Each racer will have one mile to build up speed before being clocked by radar. The times will be recorded and measured against other competitors. As a result, each boat races against the clock, not other participants.
